Elliot Lake Eastern Star supporting men’s shelter and issues challenge

Elliot Lake’s Eastern Star has presented a cheque to the local men’s shelter and is also issuing a challenge.

Larry’s Place team lead, former mayor Dan Marchisella, was presented with a cheque for just over a $1,000 last week to sponsor the cost of two beds for the shelter.

Eastern Star past Worthy Matron Lynn Thomas says they decided to support the men’s shelter because men need assistance as well.

Marchisella says the causes of homelessness are many including low income, addictions, separation or divorce, or loss of job among others and it can happen to a person at any time.

He adds Larry’s Place is changing its name to Larry’s Place FRESH START Shelter for Men with a focus on getting their clients back on their feet, and back in homes.

To that end, the two parties issued a challenge to any other organization in Elliot Lake, to Match or Beat the donation and help the cause.

Donations can be made directly to Fresh Start – Call (705) 461-9868.
