By Rosalind Russell – Elliot Lake lawyer Douglas Elliott is receiving an inaugural award acknowledging his community advocacy.
Elliott has been selected as the recipient of the Carl Mitchell Community Impact Award from the University of Toronto Alumni Association.
He says the University of Toronto is Canada’s largest university and where he received his law degree in 1982, adding the alumni association represents over 660,000 graduates from a diverse range of faculties.
He explains the award is named after a past president of the association, a successful entrepreneur whose life was cut short by cancer and recognizes a graduate who has made a positive impact on equity, diversity, and inclusion in the community, especially through volunteer work.
Elliott says it’s an unexpected and heartwarming honour from his fellow alumni and will be presented to him at a special ceremony on November 22.
