By Rosalind Russell – The Espanola Regional Hospital and Health Centre has been accepted into Healthcare Excellence Canada’s – Advancing Cultural Safety Together Collaborative.
According to the release, the collaborative is a two-year initiative that brings together 80 healthcare organizations from across Canada to advance Indigenous cultural safety and address systemic racism in healthcare.
The collaborative brings organizations together to learn from one another, strengthen relationships with First Nations, Inuit, and Métis communities, and identify practical actions that support culturally safe care.
The facility recently hired Autohm Beland as its new Indigenous Lead reporting to hospital executive as new programs are developed.
Hospital CEO Martin Lees will also attend a meeting of the collaborative’s Executive Sponsors in Ottawa this November, to share experiences, discuss progress, and support the work moving forward.
