By Rosalind Russell – Espanola council has given its approval to the purchase of extrication tools to aid the Espanola Firefighters.
Fire Chief Mike Pichor says Captain Mike Langlois was able to secure a 2019 Hurst eDRAULIC Spreader and a Cutter for $20,000 from a private training company, which is going out of business due to the idling of the Domtar pulp and paper mill.
He says that buying a comparable modern package would cost another $15,000.
Pichor adds the current extrication tools they use for rescue are over 40 years old and have reached their end of life.
Pichor stresses the newer tools are faster and more efficient with four batteries, a charger and the 110v attachment included in the purchase.
Council unanimously agreed with the purchase.
