By Rosalind Russell – The Town of Espanola is looking at filling two important positions over the next month or so and that has led to a deferral on a new recreation project for the time being.
Espanola is looking for a new recreation director with the resignation of Dan Deschamps and a Supervisor of Community & Recreation with the impending retirement of Cheryl Kennelly at the end of this month.
Councillor Aidan Kallioinen brought a motion forward to have council consider a skateboard/BMX park for Espanola in the future.
He provided a report on other similar projects in Elliot Lake and Little Current and would like to begin the process of a feasibility study.
However, other councillors wanted the matter deferred until the new recreation staff is in place.
An amended motion called on the proposal to be brought back up for discussion at the first meeting this December providing new staff time to settle in.
