By Rosalind Russell – Espanola Mayor Douglas Gervais has presented a Certificate of Appreciation to a local craftsman who has just completed a miniature model of the Domtar Mill.
Gervais met with Dave Howie earlier this week recognizing his dedication, craftsmanship and effort in capturing what he says is one of the community’s most iconic landmarks.
He points out Howie spent five to eight hours a day working on the project, which he has also videotaped and shares on YouTube.
Every piece is built entirely from scratch, cut, designed, painted and placed on a large table and is correct in the N Scale, a popular model railway scale where models are built at a ratio of 1:160 using 9 mm track gauge.
