Espanola Ski Club finalizes plans for 60th-anniversary celebrations

By Rosalind Russell – Thanks to a grant from the Ontario government, the Espanola Ski Club has finalized its plans to celebrate its 60th anniversary.

The club is hosting a variety of events as part of what it is calling Pond Skim 2023, which will be held on Saturday, April first from 11 am to 3 pm.

The day’s events include an Easter Egg Hunt for the little ones, rail jam for those who love skateboarding, ski competitions and more.

There will also be a barbecue, entertainment, and some special surprise presentations, and everyone is invited to attend.

General manager Tom Hutchinson says they will have a few special guests including local politicians and several people who have made the hill so successful in the past.

He adds the event is also receiving support from the Session ride company as a sponsor and Next Level Skateboard from Antigonish, Nova Scotia is also providing some prizing.

And what is behind the them? Hutchinson has the answer for that too … “The pond skim makes people cheer for the people going across but down deep we all know  the people watching love to see someone not make it an get soaked. We want this to be a community event and have tons of fun.”

Mark it on your calendar.
