Fireworks postponed in Elliot Lake & Mindemoya, Espanola & Sables-Spanish Rivers on watch

By Rosalind Russell – The City of Elliot Lake has decided to postpone its fireworks this coming Canada Day weekend to err on the side of caution.

Central Manitoulin has also made the decision to cancel its fireworks this coming Homecoming weekend.

Meanwhile, the Town of Espanola and the Township of Sables-Spanish Rivers respective fire departments have not cancelled yet but have made it clear that if the fire danger remains high and the open fire ban is still in place, they will also postpone their displays on Canada Day.

Decisions on fireworks are generally governed by local by-laws along with the Explosives Regulatory Division’s regulations.

If the ban remains in place, home fireworks, sparklers, or any open flames of any kind are NOT allowed during an open fire ban, including on the holiday weekend.

Only propane barbecues are allowed for outdoor use.
