First Annual WNH Musical Festival raising funds for a worthy cause

By Rosalind Russell – The rain did keep numbers down on Saturday, but the sun more than made up for it on Sunday at Thunderbird Park in Wiikwemkoong Unceded Territory.

The First Annual Wikwemikong Nursing Home Musical Festival was held this weekend to raise funds for the community’s new long-term care facility at a cost of $19 million.

Gimaa Kwa Rachel Manitowabi greeted everyone to the park taking in the fashion and car show, crafters, and the musical talent, thanking all the volunteers and community to come together for the new home, which has been allocated 37 new and 59 upgraded spaces and will offer services to Indigenous residents. She says the ground-breaking ceremony will be held soon, offering the community another opportunity to celebrate their Elders.
