Freemasonry milestone marked in Elliot Lake with special ceremony

By Rosalind Russell – Elliot Lake’s Masonic Lodge 698 had a special guest this week — the Grand Master of Ontario, Jamie Ireland, visited along with his Deputy Grand Master Art di Cecco (de-CHECK-oh), who will be taking over as grand master in the fall.
Elliot Lake Worshipful Master Douglas Elliott said they are on a tour of North-Eastern Ontario.
He says Ireland’s day included an Indigenous welcome by Serpent River First Nation Chief Wilma-Lee Johnston, an initiation ceremony of a new member and banquet.
Elliot says this is the first time a new member has been initiated in Elliot Lake in the presence of a Grand Master since the founding of the local lodge in 1959.
He adds new members are always welcome.
