Grocery giant signs code of conduct

By Rosalind Russell -METRO confirms it has signed the Canadian Grocery Industry Code of Conduct.

The company operates several grocery and pharmacy brands including METRO and Food Basics, which have stores in Blind River, Elliot Lake and on Manitoulin Island.

Officials with the code say it was developed in response to long-standing concerns about power imbalances and unfair practices in the Canadian grocery sector.

It looks to create a more level playing field by encouraging good-faith negotiations, mutual respect, and clear agreements between suppliers and retailers.

METRO President and CEO Eric La Flèche says they’ve actively contributed to the code’s development and look forward to its implementation in the years ahead.
