By Rosalind Russell – The Ontario Home Builders’ Association says it is optimistic about proposed provincial legislation to tackle the housing crisis.
The association is welcoming the Protecting Ontario by Building Faster and Smarter Act — which they say targets two of the most significant drivers of high housing costs.
Those include standardizing development charges and streamlining the permitting and approval process to reduce delays.
They say builders have long advocated for action on those barriers — saying in many cases they add hundreds of thousands of dollars to the cost of a new home.
