Major residential fire in Espanola started in a parked RV

By Rosalind Russell – Espanola firefighters took several hours fighting a residential blaze early Sunday morning.

Espanola Fire Chief Mike Pichor says emergency services responded to the residential fire along the Mead Boulevard Circle.

He says the blaze started in a RV, destroyed it, and caused significant damage to the residence and a nearby garage.

Pichor says the home was occupied at the time and had active working smoke alarms, with all residents escaping with no physical injuries.

He says the cause of the fire has not been determined at this time and is still under investigation.

Surrounding residents were also evacuated until the fire was under control.

Police tape still surrounds the site and the public is asked to respect the investigation being carried out in determining the cause and damage estimates.
