Manitoulin business leader elected to chair Science North

By Rosalind Russell – A well-known business leader will be overseeing the board that governs Science North in Sudbury.

Science North’s Ashley Larose says Jeff Smith, the vice chair of Manitoulin Transport and the Manitoulin Group of Companies, has been appointed as chair of the board of trustees.
She adds Ray Mantha, a senior civil servant in Sudbury, has also been appointed as vice-chair.

Larose says the appointments reflect the strength and continuity of Science North’s governance and both men bring exceptional governance experience, deep community roots and a strong understanding of public service, infrastructure and organizational leadership.

Smith previously served as chair of Cambrian College’s board of governors after joining the board in 2018 and was named executive of the year by the Greater Sudbury Chamber of Commerce.

He also serves on the Sudbury Food Bank board as well as the Nature Conservancy of Canada’s Regional Ontario chapter.

Larose says Smith assumes the chairmanship from Jim Lundrigan.
