By Rosalind Russell – Maureen Peltier has been appointed as the education director for schools in Wiikwemkoong Unceded Territory.
Peltier was named interim education director over the last year but has now been officially appointed by the First Nation administration’s board of education.
Her focus will be enhancing the educational experiences and outcomes for local students.
Peltier has years of experience having served as Wiikwemkoong Junior School Principal, High School Principal, and teacher for the Wiikwemkoong Board of Education.
She will oversee the community’s three schools as well as the educational programs at the Hub Centre.
The appointment was announced last Friday, and her tenure begins immediately.
