By Rosalind Russell – Thirty-six people have been arrested and are now facing nearly 130 combined charges after what the OPP calls a ‘proactive child sexual exploitation investigation’.
The OPP says 21 police services from across the province took part in the investigation which took place from late March to mid-April.
Police say undercover techniques were used to access online chatrooms and social media apps in order to identify, locate and arrest people looking to sexually exploit children.
Although officers posed as children online and waited for offenders to make contact, nine real victims were identified and were provided support.
Police add 51 ongoing investigations remain.
