Native hoop dancer wows students

By Rosalind Russell – Students at two Espanola schools were wowed by an Indigenous hoop dancer who is ranked one of the best in the world.

Theland Kicknosway is a Potawatami and Cree, and a member of the Wolf Clan.

He is a world-ranked hoop dancer, musician, internet personality, activist, role model, and an educator who weaves his culture into all that he does.

On Wednesday, he visited AB Ellis Public School and Espanola High School to teach some basic hoop dance skills, share his story and the story of hoop dancing, as well as perform one of his presentations.

After his tour in Espanola, he also made presentations in Whitefish River  and Sagamok Anishinaabek First Nations.
