
By Rosalind Russell – A Manitoulin Island First Nation has begun construction of a new school.
According to the release, construction has started on Sheshegwaning First Nation by the Sudbury-based company Prosperi Construction.
The school will house grades Kindergarten to Grade eight in an over 18,000 square foot building .
The project is being funded through Indigenous Services Canada and is expected to open in January of 2027.
The board will also be looking for new names for the new space as construction draws near to completion.
Currently students are sharing space at the St. Joseph’s Anishinabek School.
