Plans in the works for Anishinaabe Day

By Rosalind Russell – Two First Nations organizations have put together lesson plans to help Indigenous and non-Indigenous teachers and students understand the importance of Anishinaabe Day coming up next week.

The Kinoomaadziwin Education Body and Anishinabek Nation have jointly developed lesson plans surrounding the day, June 6th, which honours Anishinaabe identity, history, traditions, and pride.

According to the partners, the lessons will help students understand the preamble to the Anishinaabe Constitution and the importance of family, which are culturally relevant and connected to the Ontario curriculum.

The Anishinabek Nation Leadership Council, June 6 proclaimed June 6th as a significant culturally-focused day back in November of 2021.
