Rainbow students bring home Gold, Silver and Bronze from Skills Ontario

Thirteen students from Rainbow Schools captured top honours at the Skills Ontario Competition on May 5 and 6, 2025 – a record for Rainbow District School Board.

Esohe Aibangbee of Lockerby Composite School, who took home Gold in the Workplace Safety category, will compete at the Skills Canada National Competition from May 26 to 31, 2025 in Regina, Saskatchewan.

Skills Ontario is Canada’s largest skilled trades competition. Each year, more than 2,400 elementary, secondary and post-secondary students vie for medals in a variety of skilled trades.

Rainbow students earned the honour to compete provincially during the Rainbow District School Board Technological Skills Competition and the North East Qualifier.

“Congratulations to all students who participated in this year’s Skills Ontario Competition,” said Board Chair David Farrow. “Students put their knowledge and skills to the test and proved that they are among the best in their field in Ontario. We are so proud of our students for their outstanding achievement at the provincial level.”

“Students worked hard to prepare for their respective competitions with impressive results,” said Director of Education Bruce Bourget. “This has been a banner year for Rainbow District School Board and we acknowledge all students for their incredible showing.”

Director Bourget applauded staff in all schools who give students hands-on opportunities and experiences in the trades and technology. “We are grateful to our staff who inspire students to think trades and explore technology, which open pathways to exciting careers. We also thank parents/guardians for supporting student success.”
