Rainbow students participate in the Technological Skills Competition

By Rosalind Russell – The Rainbow District School Board will host its 19th annual Technological Skills Competition this week.

Most events will take place at Cambrian College in Sudbury this Wednesday, while some competitions are scheduled over the coming weeks at various venues.

Espanola High School and Manitoulin Island Secondary School will join secondary students to test their knowledge in all kinds of skills, from baking and horticulture, carpentry, to auto mechanics, robotics, and digital production.

Espanola High will also host the aesthetics and hairstyling competition.

This year’s elementary competition continues to grow with approximately 372 students participating in seven key categories vying for an opportunity to compete at the Skills Ontario Competition on May 4th and 5th, in Toronto.

The baking competition will take place at Lockerby Composite School.

Carpentry competitions, including Home and Team Building and Carpentry – Team of 2 and Individual Carpenter, will take place at the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners Local 2486 in Azilda.

Judges will include staff from Rainbow District School Board, Cambrian College and members of the Carpenters Union.

Participants will have an opportunity to take home medals and certificates of achievement to celebrate their success.
