By Rosalind Russell – The Rotary Club of Elliot Lake has honoured one of their own.
Timothy J.L. Phelan says the members held their Annual Paul Harris Dinner last night to raise funds, but more importantly, to bestow the organization’s highest honour on one of their members.
He says the Paul Harris Fellowship is the highest honour an individual Rotary Club can bestow, and last night it was presented to John Tyler.
Phelan adds that not only is Tyler an active member of the club, but he also volunteers with the local youth soccer program Mount Dufour ski racers and several other organizations and clubs in the city.
The award is given to individuals who best portray the Rotary motto: “Service above self.”
Past local recipients include Clare and Merv McCormik, Darla Hennessey, Malcom “Red” Briffett, William Elliott, Jim Graham, Bill Riddle, Pierre Vaillancourt, Bob and Faye Ferguson, and Kim and Wayne Arnold, among others.
