By Rosalind Russell – A school structure for athletics has collapsed in Sudbury.
According to the Rainbow District School Board release, the Lancer Dome has collapsed under the weight of snow, so all community use is cancelled until further notice.
The dome, located adjacent Lasalle Secondary School, was built to allow for year-round access, but Sunday’s snowfall followed by freezing rain, proved too much for the structure.
Not only is the facility used for athletes from the high school, it is also rented out to various users throughout the year, but no one was accessing the facility when it collapsed on Sunday night.
There is no estimate of the damage, but an insurance claim has been submitted, and contractors will be contacted to repair the structure as soon as possible.
