By Rosalind Russell – An Island-wide clean-up is underway on Manitoulin Island.
According to Manitoulin Streams, the clean-up started yesterday and will be carried out through the until May 15.
Communities will be working together to remove garbage from roadsides, shorelines, and natural areas and everyone can take part, individuals, families, schools, businesses, and community groups.
New this year is the Bridge-to-Boat Challenge to clean 65 kilometres of Highway Six from the Swing Bridge in Little Current to the Chi-Cheemaun ferry berth in South Baymouth.
The organization will also be handing out awards in different categories including community, school, business and/or club, as well as acknowledging individuals as Garbage Cleanup Heroes,
Everyone can clean up anywhere on Manitoulin, take photos of their clean up and send them to their website on Facebook.
The awards will be presented in late May
