By Rosalind Russell – The Director of the Special Investigations Unit, Joseph Martino, found no reasonable grounds to believe a Greater Sudbury Police Service officer committed a criminal offence in connection with the fractured collar bone suffered by a 75-year-old man.
In his report, Martino says on October 18 of last year, the man, while riding an electric bike, was struck by the cruiser as he cycled across Lorne Street.
Martino says the police officer had entered the intersection on a greenlight while enroute to a call for service.
Martino concluded the officer approached the intersection at a moderate speed, had the right of way through a green light, and attempted to avoid striking the cyclist when he appeared in front of the cruiser, so he found that the man was solely responsible for the collision.
