By Rosalind Russell – The Wikwemikong Tribal Police Service has released its Strategic Plan, which outlines the priorities of the service for the next three years.
Police Chief Ron Gignac says the plan is built to strengthen policing services, enhance community partnerships, and improve safety outcomes across the Wiikwemkoong Unceded Territory.
He adds developed through collaboration with the Police Services Board, community partners, and frontline staff; it reflects the values, voices, and aspirations of the people they serve.
He points out Wiikwemkoong is home to over 8,000 citizens, with approximately 4,000 living on reserve, which adds unique complexity to their public safety mandate.
Key priorities include building internal capacity, improving early intervention through the Situation Table, strengthening offender management and bail compliance, launching the Emergency Response Officer program, improving safety through seasonal patrols, expanding youth programs, and increasing public communication.
He says each area is guided by a vision of culturally responsive, community-first policing rooted in accountability and service stressing together, with the guidance of Elders, the support of families, and the dedication of officers and civilian staff, the service remains committed to building an agency that protects with care, leads with respect, and strengthens the Nation of Wiikwemkoong.
