By Rosalind Russell – A tractor trailer fire closed down Highway 17 near the Town of Spanish late Tuesday afternoon.
According to the release, the Spanish Fire Department was dispatched to the fire at around 3:30 pm near the Beckerton Shooting Range Road.
The tractor trailer was destroyed, however the trailer and load only sustained minor damage, and the driver escaped unharmed.
The cause of the fire is believed to be a mechanical issue.
Highway 17 was closed for several hours in order to extinguish the fire and clear the roadway of debris.
