Spartans bring home plenty of hardware from Ontario arm wrestling finals

By Rosalind Russell – The culmination of a long year of training came in the form of 27 members of the Spartan Arm-Wrestling Club from Espanola High School travelling to Hawkesbury Ontario for the OFSAA Regional Provincial Championships.

Athletes take their turns in the different categories: junior girls and boys and senior girls and boys, using one arm, then the other.

The students have spent the last seven months honing their skills at the table with 14 Spartans bringing home hardware.

This was the first year for the high school to enter the arm-wrestling arena, but it won’t be their last.

The day started off well with Dallas Tranchemontagne winning the first Spartan medals – a bronze (left) and a silver (right) in the heavyweight category.

The junior girls followed in his footsteps with the following results in their respective classes:

Mya Moffat: Silver Right Arm, Siver Left Arm

Eden Lester: Bronze Right Arm, Gold Left Arm

Makayla Raby: Fourth Right Arm, Bronze Left Arm

Rhawnie Therrien: Bronze Right Arm, Silver Left Arm

Mady Croft: Bronze Right Arm, Silver Left Arm

Not to be outdone, the senior girls followed:

Jasmina Capan: Silver Right Arm, Gold Left Arm

Kiah Trudeau: Fourth Right Arm, Fourth Left Arm

The junior boys came close to medals with the following highlight worth performances:

Aidan Steedman: Fourth Right Arm, Fourth Left Arm

RJ Stoneypoint: Sixth Right Arm, Fourth Left Arm

Braden Hall: Sixth Left Arm

And the Senior Boys did not disappoint:

Ryder Smith: Siver Right Arm, Fifth Left Arm

Aidan Taylor: Gold Right arm, Gold Left Arm
