Steel my heart away

By Rosalind Russell –  Prime Minister Mark Carney says new measures will soon be in place to protect and strengthen Canada’s steel industry.

That includes additional tariffs of 25 per cent on any steel imports from all non-U.S. countries containing steel melted and poured in China before the end of July.

Import quotas are also being imposed based on how much steel was imported from each country last year.

Along with the extra taxation – Carney says upwards of a billion dollars will also be added to a fund helping steel companies advance projects, create jobs and more.

Carney says our country’s steel industry will be central to Canada’s competitiveness, our security, and our prosperity.

No changes to the current trade measures with the U.S were announced.
