Students of École Sainte-Anne collaborate with Franco-Ontarian artist to create meaningful new mural

École Sainte-Anne in Spanish has unveiled a vibrant new mural, the result of a dynamic two-day workshop led by Franco-Ontarian graffiti artist Mique Michelle. The collaborative project engaged students from grades 1 to 6 in a multidisciplinary exploration of visual art, cultural identity, and community values. Under the guidance of Mique Michelle, students discovered graffiti art techniques while reflecting on themes such as their identity as proud Franco-Ontarians, the spirit of their school community, and the values that resonate most with them. Together, they co-designed a large-scale mural that is proudly displayed in the school’s gymnasium. Each student contributed to the artwork, adding personal touches to the collective piece. At its centre is a powerful image of a bear—an emblem that holds deep significance for the Sainte-Anne school community. Surrounding it are a variety of symbols representing the shared experiences and values of students and staff.

Mique Michelle, originally from West Nipissing, is known for using graffiti art as a platform to raise awareness about the experiences of visible and invisible minorities. Her impactful murals can be found in communities across the globe.

This artistic initiative not only beautifies the school environment but also celebrates the voices and creativity of Franco-Ontarian youth, fostering pride, inclusion, and cultural expression.
