By Rosalind Russell – Elliot Lake Council has given its approval to a three-year agreement between the City and the Elliot Lake Vikings, which establishes clear operational responsibilities and supports the continued return of Junior A hockey to Rogers Arena.

Last night, council voted unanimously for the agreement that aligns with the renovated facility and updated legal and insurance provisions that protect both parties.

The revised sponsorship structure will see the city provide up to $12,000 per year to cover the team’s ice rental and when that funding runs out, they will pay the minor hockey rate.

The team also gets all the revenue from the advertising featured in Rogers Arena.

The new addition is a one-year operating trial, which allows the Vikings organization to run the canteen, adding to revenue stability for the team.

In turn, the City will receive advertising, access to live streaming play through Flo Hockey, ticket packages.

Team spokesperson, William Elliot also informed council that they have already held a camp and have signed some players, and that the selling of seasonal tickets, sponsorships and advertising is well underway.
