TRAFFIC STOP LEADS TO IMPAIRED DRIVING AND DRUG CHARGES

(ESPANOLA, ON) – Three people have been arrested and charged following a traffic stop in Espanola.

 

On December 1, 2023, shortly before 11:00 p.m., members of the Manitoulin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting general patrol in the town of Espanola.

 

Police conducted a traffic stop on Park Street and upon speaking with the driver, were able to determine that the driver had a suspended licence. Further investigation revealed that the driver and a passenger were wanted on outstanding warrants.

 

Police conducted a search of the vehicle and located suspected fentanyl and cocaine.

 

All vehicle occupants were subsequently arrested.

 

As a result of the investigation, Kalob ROBINSON, 32-years-old from Sables-Spanish Rivers Township has been charged with:

  • Possession of a schedule I substance – cocaine
  • Possession of a schedule I substance – opioid (other than heroin)
  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Driving while under suspension
  • Contravene licence condition – driving ability

 

Tayia HEATON, 28-years-old from Sables-Spanish Rivers Township and Lianne FLOREAN, 42-years-old from Baldwin Township have been charged with:

  • Possession of a schedule I substance – cocaine
  • Possession of a schedule I substance – opioid (other than heroin)

 

The accused persons are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola on January 15, 2024.
