Trebek family launches The Alex Trebek Fund

By Rosalind Russell – Stand Up To Cancer and the Trebek family launched The Alex Trebek Fund yesterday raise funds for research into pancreatic cancer, which has the highest mortality rate of all major cancers.

According to his widow, Jean kickstarted the fund with a donation of $1 million in partnership with the Estate of Barbara Hanania, a former cinematographer, to honour her late husband who lost his battle with pancreatic cancer in 2020.
She adds the new endeavour is in In partnership with Katie Couric’s Stand Up to Cancer, which supports the research, detection, and treatment of pancreatic cancer.

She adds having made his American television debut in 1973, Trebek began hosting Jeopardy! in 1984 and went on to host the syndicated show for more than 36 years.

Raised in Sudbury, he always stayed close to his Northern Ontario roots even visiting his hometown just before his death in 2019.
