VCARS celebrating 30th anniversary highlighting local volunteers

By Rosalind Russell – Manitoulin North Shore Victim Crisis Assistance and Referral Services (VCARS) is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year.

Program Coordinator Jessica Van Alstine says the organization provides crisis intervention services to victims of crime and their families, stressing it is the volunteers who provide vital supports.

Van Alstine says an upcoming gala to mark the 30th anniversary will include sharing information on the variety of programs available including the new Student Volunteer Program, geared to help students with their volunteer hours during high school, and provide a taste of the work involved if they choose a related career.

She says the Under the Stars Gala is being held to thank those volunteers and to also present the Volunteer of the Year Award.

It will be held next month (April 18th) at the Espanola Golf & Country Club.

She says anyone interested in volunteering, which does involve training, can contact their office.
