
By Rosalind Russell – Every year, the Victorian Order of Nurses holds its “March for Meals’, which addresses food scarcity among seniors, and showcases how their volunteer program works in Espanola and the surrounding area.
Program coordinator Joan Nott says this year, they are hosting an Open House at their offices in Espanola, (439A Second Avenue sharing information about the Meals on Wheels Program they run in conjunction with the Espanola Regional Hospital & Health Centre.
She says the program focuses on providing meals to seniors who either cannot afford it, find it difficult to go out and get groceries or need additional support.
She says they provide hot meals three days of the week, Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, as well as prepared frozen meals to help seniors.
Nott says the meals are also delivered by volunteers who work with the organization,
She adds everyone is invited to attend the open house, which will be held this Thursday, April 2, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with refreshments being served and door prizes.
