
By Rosalind Russell – The flood waters are receding on Manitoulin Island, so the Manitoulin Health Centre reopened the Mindemoya Hospital Emergency Department, last night at 8 pm.
Centre president, CEO Paula Fields says the hospital had been closed following the recent Code Grey related to a water and sewer problems caused by community flooding.
She says the facility is taking a phased and cautious approach to restoring services, beginning with the reopening of the Emergency Department and the resumption of Outpatient services with the goal of fully reopening today.
Fields adds a key priority is bringing back patients who were transferred to Espanola and Little Current, ensuring continuity of care while minimizing strain on the system as operations return to normal.
In other related news, the drinking water advisory put in place for Mindemoya has been lifted by Public Health Sudbury & Districts.
Highway 17 continues to have flooding problems at the bottom of the Nairn Hill heading to Sudbury, so motorists should drive with caution.
Penage Lake Road in Espanola was reopened yesterday after flood waters receded along Black Creek.
Repairs on other roads continue including Old Webbwood Road, north-west of Espanola.
However, flood warnings remain in all three districts of Algoma, Manitoulin and Sudbury, but will likely be downgraded soon.
