49 Ontario paramedics recognized for 30+ years of exemplary service

By Rosalind Russell – This week, Ontario paramedics received their Governor General Emergency Medical Services Exemplary Service Medal bars for providing exemplary emergency medical services for 30, 40 and 50 years.  

Colonel Shane Elder, Deputy Commandant of the Canadian Forces College, presented the First, Second or Third Bars to 49 paramedics at the Canadian Forces College in Toronto n behalf of Governor General Mary Simon.

The medal was created in 1994 by the late Governor General of Canada, Romeo LeBlanc and recognizes paramedics for their long service.

The recipients only qualify once they have worked in the field for a minimum of ten years, and then receive different bars every ten years to recognize their work.

Three local recipients were included: Sylvie Michaud – Second Bar, Garry Lauzon – First Bar, and Corey Petrie – First Bar.
