By Rosalind Russell – A former resident of Espanola has followed in his father’s footsteps.
According to the release, the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service Board has promoted William Freeman, the son of Espanola’s former chief of Police, the late Ray Freeman to Deputy Chief of Police.
Freeman says policing is in his blood and his father, Ray, Espanola’s fourth police chief (appointed in 1988 serving in the position for 21 years until his retirement) would be proud of him and other family members, two uncles, his brother and his son, who are continuing the policing tradition.
William joined the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service in 1998 and filled several roles, including Supervisor of the Emergency Services Unit, Inspector of Support Services, Inspector of Investigation Services, and most recently, Interim Deputy Chief.
He was officially appointed at last week’s board meeting after signing a four-year contract and has immediately assumed his new duties.
An official swearing-in ceremony will take place in the coming weeks.
