By Rosalind Russell – The Federation of Northern Ontario Municipalities says the Nickel Canada Crawford mine project is the kind of nation-building investment our region has been calling for.
It was designated to the federal Major Projects Office last week.
FONOM says it’s an important milestone that recognizes the national significance of the Timmins area project and its potential to drive economic growth and clean energy development in Northern Ontario.
President Dave Plourde says the north has a central role to play in supplying the critical minerals needed for electric vehicles, clean technology, and national security.
Meanwhile, FONOM is also calling on the feds to ensure its upcoming multi-billion-dollar VIA Rail fleet procurement prioritizes Canadian workers, manufacturing, and supply chains.
