Owls, nesting, and students’ curiosity

By Rosalind Russell – Students from a Manitoulin Island school took part in a unique field trip involving owls.

Earlier this month, the Manitoulin Nature Club and Grade three students from Central Manitoulin Public School teamed up to practice owl calls, ask questions and install a nesting box donated by the club.

The new nesting box was installed as a proactive measure due to a currently barred owl nesting tree being partially dead and identified as a tree of concern.

The Central Manitoulin Trail Committee appreciates the support and is working on enhancing the 42-acre park by installing accessible trails including an alvar trail to be unveiled this Spring, and signage.
