By Rosalind Russell – Weir Canada, which specializes in mining technology solutions has begun the expansion to their facility in Elliot Lake.
Mayor Andrew Wannan and Ms. Natalie Bray, Director of Clerks and Planning Services joined Troy Irving Operations Manager of Weir Canada’s Elliot Lake facility on a tour on Tuesday (Feb. 24).
Irving says the expansion will include adding 3,000 square feet of floor space and the addition of a new autoclave which will allow them to offer additional products representing a $3-million-dollar investment and more jobs for the city.
Irving estimates the project should be complete by late July with a grand opening also in the works.
He adds they are happy to source local suppliers and contractors for portions of this project as a way to contribute to the city’s economic wellbeing.
Wannan expressed his gratitude adding the city is happy with Weir for seeing the value that Elliot Lake offers as a place to invest and for the quality of life it offers to their employees.
Bray adds the community is evolving both from a business and population standpoint and they are glad to see that one of our long-standing manufacturers are part of our city’s growth.
